BREAKING: Housing, With Under 24 Hours Notice, Announces Residence Halls Open EARLY, TOMORROW AT NOON

MUNCIE, IN - Ball State University has just announced that residence halls will open early, but students have less than 24 hours to adjust. In an email sent out Friday morning, January 3, Housing and Residence Life informed students that they need to return to campus by tomorrow, Saturday, January 4, due to a Winter Storm Watch in effect for Sunday, January 5, through Monday, January 6.

While the University is taking action to ensure students can get back safely before the storm, the short notice has many students scrambling to rearrange their travel plans.

Here’s everything you need to know:

  • Residence Halls Opening: All residence halls will open at noon on Saturday, January 4, for returning students. New students should check in between 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday or any time after 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 5.

  • Dining Services: Keep in mind, there won’t be any dining options available on campus until Sunday, January 5. Woodworth and North Dining Halls will open at 11:00 a.m., and Tom John’s Food Shop won’t open until 5:00 p.m.

  • Shuttle Service: A modified Green Loop will be running on Saturday, January 4, from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 5, from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. However, no shuttle service will be available after 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.

  • Parking: Parking enforcement will begin Sunday evening, January 5, at 7:00 p.m.

With the Winter Storm Watch looming and snow expected to start accumulating this weekend, the University is encouraging students to monitor weather conditions and plan accordingly. As always, students are urged to use caution when traveling around campus, especially as the University works to clear pathways and walkways.

It’s clear this quick turnaround may not have given students much time to adjust their schedules, but Housing's hope is that getting everyone back to campus safely before the storm hits will make the weekend easier for everyone.

Remember to bring your room key and BSU ID with you when returning, and keep an eye on Housing's official channels like bsu.edu, emergency text messages, and social media for any updates.

UPDATE: Dining has announced that Tom John will be open Saturday with limited hours, from 4-8pm. They will not be accepting meal plans, only cash and credit/debit cards. All other dining options remain closed.

The Atrium to Follow MyPlate Standards, Limiting Vivimos and Adding Salad Bar

MUNCIE, INDIANA - Inspired by the old MyPlate initiative pushed in K-12 schools, Ball State Dining has taken inspiration, making groundbreaking changes to The Atrium. These changes include less availability at Vivimos, an additional salad bar, and the most important meal of the day no longer being served. A post circulating Instagram and YikYak from a student food reviewer shows that that Vivimos is now part of the "Rotating Cuisine" menu, only offering burritos, burrito bowls and nachos. A salad bar was also introduced. Breakfast, however, is no longer an option. A spokesperson for University Dining told BSnUws that they were "inspired by Becoming by Michelle Obama" to "implement the classic MyPlate standards from back in our day". "The MyPlate program states we only have to give our scholars 2 cups of fruit, 2 and a half cups of vegetables, 6 ounces of whole grain, 5 and a half ounces of protein, and 3 cups of milk for what we offer to be consid...
